There has been a change in the weather and it is beginning to warm up from our very frosty winter. There has also been a change in our Great Lakes Regional leadership I have now taken over the job of Regional VP for the Great Lakes, replacing Bill C. MacLeod, who will become President of the Clan MacLeod Society U.S.A. in May of this year. Bill has done an outstanding job organizing our region and representing us at the national society. Our hearty congratulations to Bill!! We are proud that he will lead us and look forward to giving him our full help and support.

For the first time, my wife Judy and I attended the 2002 Clan MacLeod Parliament held at Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. There were MacLeods and septs from all over the world, inspite of the world events and fears of this last year. The USA was well represented there, and we had a great time. My Michigan cousin Annalee attended, and together we explored Skye and our family’s Scottish links to the Outer Hebrides as well as participate in parliament activities. Bill C, Bill G, Richard and Cindy, and myself, from Chicago met in Washington DC in December for the USA Society Meeting. Even though it was cold and had snowed, we all enjoyed the Scottish Christmas Walk in downtown Alexandria VA. The MacLeods had a very large contingent, and the crowds were very appreciative. Also, don’t forget that Tartan Day this year will be celebrated on April 6th. Be sure to show your proud Scottish heritage by wearing your favorite tartan!!

HIGHLAND GAMES SCHEDULE 2003

Below, we have listed the regional Highland Games at which the Clan Macleod will have a tent. Please consider the Clan MacLeod tent your “headquarters” for the games. Bring your cooler, folding chairs and join us for a day of Scottish fun and heritage. We encourage you to march in the Parade of Clans with us, sporting your favorite MacLeod tartan. We hope to see you at one of there great events!!

2004 will be a big year for Clan MacLeod Society USA. It will be our 50th anniversary. This organization was started in Chicago, with a meeting at the University Club in 1954.For this reason , we are hosting the North American Gathering in 2004. We have held several organizational meetings with several of our Great Lakes members: Bernie and Edith, Coralane & Harry Boyes (MI), Michael (IN), Bonnie Reese, Richard & Cindy, Bill & Irene, Judy and I (Il). Our Gathering site is the Sheraton, Arlington Heights, which is next to Arlington Park race track. Our guests will be Chief John MacLeod of MacLeod and Alistrir MacLeod, Canadian author. We are planning many interesting educational and recreational activities for you to enjoy. Mark your calendars for July 1-4, 2004 and be looking for registration information in the USA Clan newsletter or at our Great Lakes website. www.macleodgreatlakes.org
